The YouVersion Bible App has achieved a historic milestone, with January 5, 2025, marking its highest single-day installations ever—798,000 downloads globally. Among the nations experiencing remarkable growth, Ghana recorded a 65% surge in activity, reflecting a rising interest in Bible engagement across the country.

Bobby Gruenewald, founder of YouVersion and a pastor at Life.Church, revealed that the app saw 18.2 million people engaging with the Bible on that record-breaking day. “We tend to see a seasonal uptick in Bible engagement at the beginning of the year as people start new habits and are interested in reading the Bible for the first time,” Gruenewald shared with The Christian Post.
This year’s increase surpassed last year’s figures, with Ghana playing a notable role in the app’s global success. The rise in activity in Ghana mirrors a broader regional trend, with Northern Africa experiencing a staggering 297% increase and the Middle East reporting a 166% rise in Bible engagement.
YouVersion’s features, such as Bible Plans and “Plans with Friends,” have contributed to its growing popularity. These tools provide daily devotionals and foster community engagement, making it easier for individuals to maintain consistent Bible-reading habits. Gruenewald emphasized the app’s mission, saying, “We’re always looking for ways to improve the app and help people do what they tell us they want to do, which is read the Bible more consistently.”
Since its launch in 2008, YouVersion has reached over 850 million installations worldwide and continues to make Scripture accessible in more than 2,100 languages. Ghana’s notable surge in downloads underscores the app’s growing impact in the country, where more people are turning to digital tools to deepen their faith.
“Every time someone opens the Bible is an opportunity for the power of God’s Word to change their life,” Gruenewald added.
