GLOW FOR CHANGE TO HOST CHILD CANCER AWARENESS WALK

In the age of modern medicine and scientific advancement, cancer is still a disease scientists are battling to put a permanent stop to. It is assumed that cancer only affects the aged but the disease also affects the young and even children. This life-threatening disease amongst children is one that Glow for Change aims to raise awareness of through the Gold Ribbon Walk.

In Ghana, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), about 1200 children under the age of 15 are estimated to develop cancer annually. In addition to Leukaemia, lymphoma, retinoblastoma, Wilms’ tumor, soft tissue sarcoma and neuroblastoma are among the most common forms in the country. Without treatment which can be expensive, the child may not live long.

Glow for Change which was formed in 2017 by philanthropist, Ruth Otchere seeks to provide support to underprivileged children and their caregivers. Over the years, the NGO with support from friends, partners, and sponsors, has undertaken several projects in the area of child healthcare. The most notable of them was fully funding the heart surgery of 5-year-old Akosua worth Ghc 10,000 in February 2022. This year, the goal for them is to raise awareness of childhood cancer through the Gold Ribbon Walk.

The health walk which will take place on the 24th of September 2022 will commence at the Accra Mall parking lot to the Aviation Social Centre at 6:30 am and will attract stakeholders from all works of life. The Founder and CEO of Glow for Change, Ruth Otchere in an interview with Fifi Folson on the Gospel Drive Online on Kristocentric Station, revealed that aside from the idea of raising awareness of childhood cancer, the walk will also serve as a fundraiser towards helping children who are unable to cater for the treatment of the disease.

In the effort to raise funds for the project, donors are entreated to send donations via *389*688and also to purchase the Gold Ribbon Walk bronze, silver, and gold packages at Ghc 100, Ghc 150, and Ghc 200 respectively. The bronze package comes with a Glow for Change branded t-shirt. The silver comes with a t-shirt and a branded water bottle, while the gold packages come with 2 branded t-shirts and a water bottle.

This cause is one all believers are entreated to support. In Proverbs 28:27, the Bible emphasizes the fact that those who give to the poor will never want. Christians are not merely to pray for solutions to their problems but rather seek to be solutions to the prayers of others and in this situation, it will be through donating.
